The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, a bilateral assistance programme run by India, yesterday celebrated the ITEC day at the Indian embassy here.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Navdeep Suri said through ITEC, a large number of Egyptians had gone to India for training in a variety of fields - from accounting and microfinance to agriculture and IT.
The ITEC was launched in 1964 as a programme of cooperation and partnership by India to address the needs of friendly developing countries in the field of human resource development, he said.
Encouraged by the considerable interest in Egypt in the programme, India has decided to offer around 100 ITEC slots to Egyptian officials and nationals on a yearly basis.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Ahmed Ismail highlighted the extensive cooperation between India and Egypt while lauding India's achievement in the field of science and technology.
He said the programme allows Egyptians to keep up to date with the ITEC scheme offers, training in over 250 courses in prestigious educational, technical and vocational institutes in India in a variety of fields ranging from IT to management, vocational training, banking, finance, English language.
Yesterday's event was attended by a large number of Egyptian officials and nationals who have been trained in various courses organised under the ITEC programme in India.
