India inks 12 pacts with other nations on renewable energy

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 12 countries during the last three years to enhance cooperation in the sector, Parliament was informed today.
"The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has singed MOUs with 12 countries during the last three years. In addition, letter of intend and joint declaration of intend with Egypt and Germany were also signed," Power, Coal and Renewable Energy Ministry Piyush Goyal said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.
Goyal informed the House that joint research work has been initiated by the National Institute of Solar Energy (India) and Fraunhofer Institut fur Solary Energiesysteme (ISE), Germany, in the area of solar and wind resource mapping.
He further said that a joint research work has also been initiated with Centre for Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), Spain, on wind energy forecasting and development of monitoring system for energy reception elements in solar thermal plants.
India has the potential of producing 8,96,602 MW from renewable energy sources, including 7,48,990 MW from solar, 1,02,772 MW from wind, 19,749 MW from small hydro, 17,536 MW from biomass, 5,000 MW from bagase cogeneration and 2,554 MW from waste to energy.
The power generation from renewable energy sources was 61,780.55 million units in 2014-15 compared to 53,058.76 MU in 2013-14 and 47,613.06 MU in 2012-13.
Out of the 61,780.55 MUs produced from various renewable energy source include 33,768.21 MUs from wind, 11,880.75 MUs from bagasse, 4,598.34 MUs from solar, 3,159.84 from biomass and 7,959.55 from small hydel projects.
