A joint military exercise between India and Kazakhstan focused on counter-insurgency operations in mountainous terrains concluded here on Tuesday.

The 14-day exercise, KAZIND-2019, began on October 2.

"The exercise concluded today (Tuesday) with 72 hours (of) outdoor exercise involving both troops that carried out cordon and search operation in mock counter-insurgency," the Army said in a press communique.

Both the armies participated in a number of extracurricular activities, including friendly football and basketball matches, on the concluding day, it said.

"The troops also participated in important drill demonstrations related to counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations during the 14-day joint exercise," the Army said.

Guest officers from both the armies said the exercise would not only promote understanding and inter-operability between the militaries of India and Kazakhstan, but also cement the two nations' ties.
