India-Mauritius relations to have new dynamism: President

President Pranab Mukherjee said India attaches high importance to its relations with Mauritius and hoped a new dynamism would be added to these bi-lateral relations in the future.

Mukherjee expressed these views as the visiting Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim called on him at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here after she arrived on her maiden visit to India today.

The President, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said, congratulated her on being the first woman President of Mauritius.

He said people of India are delighted that Dr Ameenah Gurib-Fakim has personal, professional and academic linkages with India.

"India attaches high importance to its relations with Mauritius which has a very special place in the hearts and minds of the Indian people," the President said.

He said he was confident that with the achievements of Fakim in the fields of science and technology, education and innovation, Mauritius will become stronger and a new dynamism will be added to the bilateral relations of the two countries.

Fakim, during the meeting, conveyed her condolences to people of Chennai who are suffering on account of floods.

The Mauritian President described Indians as brothers and sisters and not just friends as she conveyed gratitude for India's assistance in the development of Mauritius ever since its independence and called for continuation of the close ties in the coming days based on institution and capacity building, the spokesperson added.
