"We have to learn this art very fast in India - howto take simple discovery in the laboratory to a technology," Rao said.
Speaking at the inauguration of Bangalore India Nano 2016 here, he said nano technology is one area where the gap between discovery and creating a product is very small. In most other areas like traditional pharmaceuticalindustry, you may discover a molecule today and by the time that molecule becomes a medicine it may be 15 years, butit is not so in this area, things in every aspect of nano isvery very fast," he said.
Pointing out that one of his friends from the US used the martial made in our lab and set up a company there and creating wealth, he said "unfortunately nobody in India decided to set up a factory even today. We had wonderful research, but nobody took it as a technology."
The 8th edition of Bangalore India Nano will beaddressing the latest trends in Nanotechnology coveringhealthcare, clean water, energy, manufacturing, researchindustry collaboration among others, organisers said.

Rao also called on the youngsters to take things "seriously" and produce technologies, new science and make India a "famous" country.
Speaking at the event, Karnataka Science and Technology Minister S R Patil said the endeavour of our government is to make Bengaluru a "Citadel of Nanotechnology" in India by fostering the growth of this sunrise industry in the state.
He said the government will continue to create a conduciveecosystem for investments, human resource development,research initiatives and innovation along with development ofphysical infrastructure to enable companies to set up nanotech business and commercialization activities.
