The 11th Meeting of India-Nepal Joint Committee on Inundation and Flood Management concluded in Janakpur and Kathmandu today.
The meeting began in Janakpur on April 16 followed by site visits to the Kamala, Baghmati and Lal Bakaya rivers on April 17-18, according to a press release issued by Indian Embassy here.
Sites requiring urgent and critical works were inspected, and works were recommended for the five locations Basbitta on left embankment of Kamala river, Bandipur on left embankment of Kamala river, Kirathpur on right embankment of Kamala river, Badharwa on left bank of Bagmati river and Laxminiya on the Lal Bakaya river, the statement said.
They discussed issues relating to flood forecasting, release of fund for different projects, flood inundation in various rivers and setting up mechanism for proper coordination and flood management projects.
The next meeting of the Joint Committee on Inundation and Flood Management (JCIFM) may be tentatively held in November 2017.
