India produced 39 million bales of cotton in 2013-14

The cotton production in 2013-14 was 39 million bales, with Gujarat emerging as the number one producing state followed by Maharashtra.
"Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) in its meeting dated July 2, 2014 estimated cotton production for the Cotton season 2013-14 at 390 lakh bales," Textiles Minister Santosh Gangwar said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
In its meeting on July 2, CAB estimated surplus of 32 lakh bales of cotton during the cotton season (Oct-Sept) of 2013-14.
Cotton exports are currently under Open General Licence subject to a prescribed procedure of registration.
The state-wide analysis shared by the Minister shows that Gujarat was the top cotton producer at 12 million bales; Maharashtra came in second with production of 8.4 million bales followed by Andhra Pradesh which produced 7.6 million bales. The size of each bale is 170 kg.
