India ranks 65th on tourism competitiveness index

India ranks 11th in Asia and Pacific region and 65th amongst 140 countries in tourism competitiveness, as per the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) 2013 of the World Economic Forum.
Improving ranking of India from 65th to 62nd position in travel and tourism competitiveness index has been set as a target in the Result Framework Document of Tourism Minister for the year 2014-15, Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma said in a written reply.
He said government has taken steps for the development and promotion tourism including creation of infrastructure. New schemes have been announced for development of five tourist circuits around specific themes and an amount of Rs 500 crore has been allocated for this purpose.
The tourist visa on arrival enabled with electronic travel authorisation was launched on November 27 for nationals of 43 countries including US, Germany, Israel and Russia.
