India says probing alleged raid by Indian police in Nepal

India today said it was probing reports that an Indian police team had raided a house in western Nepal without securing permission from the Nepalese government.
Nepalese media reported yesterday that some Indian security personnel had crossed the border without taking permission from Nepalese authorities and raided a house at Gulariya in Bardiya district of western Nepal.
The police team from Lakhimpur district in Uttar Pradesh state raided the house of one Manjur Prasad Shrestha on the pretext of searching for runaway criminals, ekantipur website reported.
Reacting to the reports, Indian Embassy here said it was investigating the matter and assured necessary action will be taken, if proved.
"We have received the information from local media that some Indian policemen had raided in a house in Gulariya in the Nepalese side of the border on September 18, and we have started investigating into the matter," a press release issued by the Indian Embassy said.
"We have no intention to hide such incidents and necessary actions will be initiated if proved true", the statement said.

Meanwhile, CPN-Maoist, the breakaway faction of the Unified CPN-Maoist, had termed the incident as an interference of India in the internal affairs of Nepal.
The incident was a naked interference on the national independence of Nepal, CPN-Maoist spokesperson Pampha Bhusal said in a press release today.
However, Nepalese government has so far not commented on the matter.
