India to celebrate cine centenary in Jakarta

A film festival and a cine tribute fashion will be held in the Indonesian capital next week to commemorate the centenary of Indian cinema.
The film festival, organised by the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, will be part of a week-long event. The festival will begin on September 23 with a screening of 'Raja Harishchandra', India's first feature film produced and directed by Dadasaheb Phalke.
A fashion show, "Weave of Friendship", that will pay tribute to Indian cinema will also be held on the opening day. The event will showcase Indonesian and Indian textile techniques and designs, the embassy said on its website.

Another exhibition will celebrate the history of Indian cinema through movie posters over the years.
Fifteen iconic Indian films will be screened at a cineplex during September 23-27.
The Indian cinema industry is today the world's largest film industry with 1000 films being produced annually in various languages. It is expected to have a turnover of over USD 4 billion in the next few years.
Indian cinema is extremely popular in Indonesia as well and Indian film stars have great brand value and are recognised widely, the embassy said.
