India Tourism, States support Aussie's 'Spirit of India' run

The Union Tourism Ministry and a dozen states are supporting 'Spirit of India' run by Australian ultra-marathon runner Pat Farmer, who has embarked on a 4,600 km journey to promote India as a holiday destination and raise funds for education of the girl child.
Farmer, who will run 4,600 km in 60 days from Kanyakumari to Srinagar, is being supported by India Tourism and tourism departments of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh, India Tourism Regional Director (Western and Central Region) Vikash Rustagi told reporters here today.
The 'Spirit of India Run' began from January 26 and will conclude on March 30.
Through this event, the 53-year-old multiple world record holder for endurance running aims to cement relations between India and Australia and encourage tourism.
The former MP, who will run 70-80 km everyday, is also raising funds for education of the girl child.
