The government has set up assistance helplines for foreign tourists visiting India in 12 languages including Chinese, Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma said here today.
Sharma who also visited China's Kunming city to attend an internal travel forum met the senior leader of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) Li Jiheng and discussed initiatives by both countries to promote people-to-people ties.
The minister informed the Chinese leader that besides the helpline in Chinese language, his ministry is training many tour operators to acquire skills to communicate in Mandarin to assist Chinese tourists, Indian Consulate General in Guangzhou, Sailas Thangal who accompanied Sharma told PTI.
India has already extended e-visa facility to enable Chinese tourists to get visas in short span of time.
India and several countries are trying to get a chunk of the over 100 million Chinese tourists who travelled overseas last year spending billions of dollars.
Currently less than 200,000 Chinese tourists visit India compared to over 600,000 Indian tourists and businessmen who visited China last year.
