The cooperation between India and UK in atomic energy sector is bound to increase in the years to come, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said here today.
Wide range of issues of mutual interest including civil nuclear energy cooperation, climate negotiations at Paris Meet and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's forthcoming visit to the United Kingdom later this year were discussed during the meeting between Singh and visiting UK Secretary of State (Cabinet Minister) for Energy and Climate Change, Amber Rudd.
Singh, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office, told the visiting minister that India's nuclear energy programme is primarily meant for peaceful purposes and has achieved rapid strides in recent times, particularly because the Prime Minister himself takes a personal interest and promotes all the scientific initiatives including those undertaken by the Department of Atomic Energy.
Expressing satisfaction over the fact that India and UK share collaboration in the field of atomic energy at different levels, Singh said, the mutual cooperation in this field is bound to grow further in the years to come, more so because the two countries have very much in common in different spheres of life.
Rudd, who is on a two-day visit to India, shared her country's view and observations about the climate change negotiations proposed to be held among the representatives of the different countries. She also expressed her views on the action which could be taken by India and the UK on this issue.
Rudd also dwelt on overall strategy of the British government in relation to energy including renewable energy and solar energy as well as climate change policy.
The UK Energy Minister told Singh how the entire British nation was looking forward to the Prime Minister's visit with great enthusiasm.
