Representatives of the Indian and the American industry today met in the aftermath of the recent diplomatic row between the two countries, and renewed their commitment towards maintaining strong business ties.
President of the US-India Business Council (USIBC) Ron Somers met Ficci Secretary General A Didar Singh here.
"American businesses see opportunities in the Indian marketplace, and have so for more than 20 years since economic liberalisation began. Companies like Citi and General Electric have been investing in India for more than a hundred years," Somers said.
Indo-US bilateral trade is around USD 100 billion.
"This is a strategic and commercial partnership which is far too important to be derailed. Business must continue as usual," Singh said.
Devyani Khobragade, 39, was arrested last month on charges of visa fraud and misrepresentation of facts, which have been refuted by the senior Indian diplomat. Her arrest and alleged mistreatment resulted in a major diplomatic row.
India took several retaliatory measures like reducing the diplomatic privileges of American diplomats in India and bringing it at par with what Indian diplomats get in the US.
