Indian-American teacher arrested for having sex with student

An Indian-American substitute teacher in the US state of Indiana has been arrested on charges of paying money for having sex with a teenaged male student.
Mihirbhai Patel, 24, was arrested Thursday and released the same day on a bond of USD 250, the local Daily Journal reported.
Prosecutor Brad Cooper has charged that Patel paid the teenager USD 150 and USD 200 on two occasions for having sex with the teenager student - once at a motel and other time at the house of a relative - this summer.
However, Patel would not be charged for having sex with a minor as the teen is between 16 and 18 years old.

According to Indiana State law, a teenager above 16 years can consent to sexual activity.
The daily said the issue was first reported by the school authorities after which the police began the investigation.

During the investigation the teenager told police that he and Patel had met online in June or July, but he hadn't known Patel's name.
He identified him in a photo lineup and told police he was a substitute at his school, the charging documents said.
Patel was hired by the school authorities for one year as a substitute teacher after a through background check.
His term as a substitute teacher - which is a temporary position -- has now been terminated by the school.
