While delivering the 17th Vaikunth Bhai Mehta memorial lecture here organised by National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), Gould said, "Cooperatives in India have done fabulous job in agriculture and its allied sectors. The models which have been followed by cooperatives here is need to be replicated elsewhere."
Elaborating the success story of operatives in India, Gould said that IFFCO is the largest cooperative in the world, when taken relative to country's per capita GDP, according to World ICA Cooperative Monitor 2013.
On the occasion, a book titled 'Glimpses of World Fisheries' was also released.
Delivering his opening remarks NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav expressed concern that the government ignores the cooperative sector in budget pronouncements every year.
Yadav said, "...While the government gives many concessions to the private sector, the cooperatives are not given any concessions."
Yadav also advocated for giving cooperatives a due place in planning process of the country.
