The employees provident fund compliance level in India is poor with just eight per cent of the 42 crore total workforce of the country being under it, Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner A Mahendra Raju said today.
"The compliance is very poor and it is far worse than countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka," Raju said here today at an interactive session of Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In some south east countries the compliance for social security is 100 per cent, he said.
"Out of 42 crore total workforce the compliance is just eight per cent in the country," he said, adding the situation in West Bengal is even worse at six per cent of the total workforce.
West Bengal ranks below the national average in this aspect and non-compliance level was higher in the tea and jute sectors, he said.
