Indian eves blank Egypt 4-0

Indian eves went through some anxious moments before scoring an expected 4-0 victory against lower-ranked Egypt in the sixth round of World women's team chess championship here today.
Aided by the victory, the Indian eves inched themselves forward to fifth spot in the overall rankings taking their tally up to six points out of a possible 12.
Top rated Indian and world number three in women - Koneru Humpy yet again led form the front as the Indian thinktank dropped Grandmaster D Harika expecting an easy victory in this round. Humpy accounted for Ayah Moaataz who is donning the top board for the Egyptians in the absence of mainstay Mona Khalid.

Humpy started a bit tentatively but got in to the groove as the game progressed. In the end it was another clean victory for the Indian who has scored four points in her six outings thus far.
Padmini Rout faced a stiff challenge from Shahenda Wafa on the second board and the Indian was in fact worse in the endgame that came on board. Experience came to the fore of Padmini who squeezed out a victory under trying circumstances.
Soumya Swaminathan was fine with her white pieces as she made mince-meat of Amina Sheri font he third board but on the fourth Mary Ann Gomes blundered from a fine position to find herself staring at a painful defense. Her opponent Shrook Wafa however blundered when there was little counter play left for the Indian and handed the point in a platter.

With just three rounds to come in the premier team event for women, Georgia scored a customary 3-1 victory over United States to remain in front on 11 points.

The Georgians have displayed top form thus far and in the sixth round, they won two games with black pieces.
Russia defeated Poland 0.5-3.5 and its clear that the race for the title is going to be between these two teams. The Russian women are on 10 points.
China could only manage a 2-2 draw with a young Kazakhstan team but remained on third position on eight points and the top seed Ukrainians closed in with seven points defeating Armenia 1.5-2.5.

India shares the fifth spot with Armenia and will meet leaders Georgia in the next round. If the eves can pull off a victory, the team will stay on course for a podium finish.
