A 30-year-old Indian national was jailed for one year today after being convicted of involvement in riot last December, believed to be Singapore's worst street violence in 40 years.
Bose Prabakar was convicted of obstructing an auxiliary police officer during the riots in Little India, a precinct of Indian origin businesses, eateries and pubs.
He received one year jail term backdated to his arrest on December 8.
Prabakar is the second man in Singapore to be convicted of obstruction during the riot, which carries up to eight years in jail and/or a fine.
He pleaded guilty to the obstruction charge but did not admit to a second charge of rioting, which was considered during his sentencing, The Straits Times reported.
Court documents state that Bose kicked at Officer Muhammad Bohhari Mohd Yusof while trying to break through a gap in the police line during the riot.

Bose is the 16th of 25 Indian nationals charged with rioting to be dealt with.

Cases of the remaining nine men are pending in court.
The riot was sparked by a fatal accident involving a bus and an Indian national who was working in Singapore.
Some 400 migrant workers were at the scene of the riot. Fifty-two Indians were deported from Singapore for their alleged involvement in the violence.
