Indian junior paddlers begin well in Thailand Open

Indian cadet girls team impressed on the opening day of the SET Thailand Open junior and cadet table tennis tournament here today.
The cadet girls trio of Archana Kamat, Varuni Jaiswal and Srushti Haleangadi recorded two wins in Group C to go ahead in standings. The Indian girls scored a hard fought 3-2 win over Singapore and later blanked host Thailand 3-0.
However, it was mixed luck for India in the junior section. The Indian junior boys team went down to Japan 1-3 while the junior girls team whipped Malaysia 3-0 to begin the campaign on an impressive note.
The results:
Junior boys: India lost to Japan 1-3 (Lalrin Puia bt Yuhi Itami 11-5, 10-12, 11-9, 11-5; Utkarsh Gupta lost to Kei Hanami 9-11, 11-7, 9-11, 6-11; Sanish Ambekar lost to Shouki Kihara 8-11, 9-11, 9-11; Utkarsh Gupta lost to Yuhi Itami 11-2, 2-11, 9-11, 11-5, 9-11).
Girls: India bt Malaysia 3-0 (Sreeja Akula bt Amanda Wong 11-8, 11-3, 11-9; Shruthi Amruthe bt Wen Limyi 5-11, 11-9, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6; Maria Rony bt Amanda Wong 11-3, 7-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-5).
Cadet girls: India bt Singapore 3-2 (Archana Kamat bt Hui En tan 11-4, 11-3, 8-11, 11-7; Varuni jaiswal lost to Xuan Goi Rui 5-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 13-15; Srushti Haleangadi lost to Xin Ru Wong 6-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-2, 11-13; Archana Kamat bt Rui Xuan Goi 11-5, 12-10, 11-13, 11-7; Varuni Jaiswal bt En Hui Tan 13-11, 13-1, 11-2). India bt Thailand 3-0 (Archana Kamat bt H. Popatchaya 11-9, 11-2, 11-7; Varuni Jaiswal bt Nonapat Koli 11-13, 11-9, 12-10, 11-8; Srusthi Halengadi bt Pakawon Karnathang 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 13-11).
