A 33-year-old Indian-origin Singaporean with a psychotic disorder was today jailed for 26 months for hitting his elderly mother repeatedly on the head.
Yogaraj Arumugam had taped his mother's mouth shut and locked her in her room, after she quizzed him over a trivial matter.
He also stole SGD 1,707 worth valuables from his mother during the incident in February this year.
The 150-minute ordeal left Madam Manikan Santanaletchmi, 62, with swelling in the face and bruises on the legs.
Her eye condition, caused by diabetes, was aggravated, resulting in blurred vision and bleeding from the eyes.
She required surgery to restore her eyesight before being able to continue with her daily routines, The Straits Times reported.
