Replying to a question, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid told Lok Sabha that most of the complaints pertained to non-payment or underpayment of salaries, non-renewal of visa, withholding of passport by employers, physical or sexual abuse by employer and termination of employment in an arbitrary manner.
He said 52,137 complaints from were received since 2010 by Indian Missions.
A maximum of 15,525 complaints were received from Indians living in Saudi Arabia followed by 12,820 complaints from Qatar and 9,022 from Oman.
Khurshid said whenever a complaint or petition is received by Indian Missions abroad, officials immediately take up the matter with authorities concerned in the local government for redressal.
