Indian Museum Kolkata today launched an online exhibition where around 10 per cent of its total 1.8 lakh objects antiquities have been put on display.
A large number of objects cannot be placed in the galleries due to paucity of space, Indian Museum Kolkata Director Rajesh Purohit said.
"We have got a huge collection of Art, Archaeology and Anthropology objects and 90 per cent of these antiquities cannot be regularly put on display. People are deprived of seeing all those things," Purohit told PTI.
Those 90 per cent artefacts can be displayed either by rotation or during theme-based exhibitions or through online exhibitions, he said.
"We have decided to go for an online exhibition from today having three important sections - archaeological, anthropological and arts collections," the director said.
Some of the anthropological collections date back to 3500 BC to the contemporary folk and anthropological collections, he said.
More From This Section
One has to visit indianmuseumkolkata.org and go to the gallery section to see the objects in three sections.
"This will be an experience where you will be sitting at home with your mobile and see those artefacts often not seen by people because of security reasons and space constraints," he said.
