Prejith Premanand, who hailed from Kasargod district of Kerala, had come to the UAE only three months ago.
He had reportedly finished his night shift duty and was sleeping in his flat at Frij Al Murrar in Deira, while his roommates were out, media reports said today.
The Dubai Civil Defence personnel, who were called in by neighbours after seeing heavy smoke billowing from the flat yesterday.
Neighbours saw Prejith rushing to the balcony two or three times but he was prevented from jumping off the building to save his life.
The cause of the fire was not known yet. Primary investigation showed it erupted in the hall.
