An Indian-origin man in Singapore was today sentenced to 22 weeks imprisonment for duping a drunk compatriot of SGD 13,000 through his ATM card.
Vickneswaran Sivan, 24, was jailed for taking undue advantage of Shakthikalu Manjappa Gopalakrishna by taking his ATM card and later withdrawing money.
After a night out drinking together, Sivan took a taxi with Gopalakrishna, 34, when the latter dozed off on the way.
When they reached their destination, Sivan woke him up so he could pay for their fare. Gopalkrishna handed his ATM card to the taxi driver and later keyed in his pin code.
Sivan noted the PIN number as his drinking buddy typed it in to the terminal, then took the card back from the driver without Gopalkrishna's consent and committed the crime.
