The second edition of the Indian Police Martyrs' Memorial Run will be held here on October 15 and the event will have three categories.
"As part of the Police Commemoration Week (October 15- to 21), the Indian Police Martyrs Memorial Run will be held on October 15," Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma told reporters here today.
The Telangana Police, for the first time in the country, had last year organised the run. The memorial run will have three categories -- 2 km, 5 km and 10 km.
Sharma said the response to last year's event was overwhelming. "The run is organised to pay tributes to martyrs of the entire police force of the country."
He said a 'Police Expo' will also be organised wherein para-military forces and police of different states will put up their stalls.
The Telangana DGP said on an average over 500 police personnel sacrifice their lives every year in the country while performing their duties.
Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj extended her support for the campaign.
"It is equally important we should be aware about the Indian police department's contribution. I, as a cricketer, can play and practice without any hassle because I know I am protected by the police department and armed forces of the country," she said.
