Indian soldier's body arrives from Sudan

The body of Havildar Bharat Sasmal, who was killed in an ambush in South Sudan on Tuesday while serving in UN peacekeeping mission, was brought here today.
Defence sources said that Havildar Sasmal was among the five soldiers whose convoy was ambushed in Jonglei region of South Sudan on April 9.
Five Indian Army personnel, including a Lt Colonel were killed and four injured during a UN peacekeeping mission when their 32-member convoy was attacked.
Havildar Sasmal from 9 mechanised Infantry hailed from Patospur village in Howrah district.
He is survived by his mother, wife, a nine-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.

Wreaths were placed on the coffin as a mark of respect to the brave soldier on behalf of army commander Lt Gen Dalbir Singh and by GoC Bengal area Lt Gen A K Choudhary.
The body has been taken to the Sasmal's native place for last rites, sources said.
The bodies of the other four Indian peacekeepers had also reached the country early this morning.
