The visit, which starts today and is the biggest-ever in terms of size, has been made possible by the Colombo visit of the Indian Minister of Commerce, Industry and textiles, Anand Sharma last month, he added.

"This latest high level visit will help us to increase our garment exports to India," Bathiyutheen added.

In 2011, Sri Lanka exported USD 50 million worth of garments, woven fabrics and other textiles to India and the country's garment exports to India alone stood at USD 25.56 million.

Garments are Sri Lanka's fifth export item to India in terms of volume.

The Indian private sector apparel producers and entities in the delegation are Mafatlal Denim Ltd, Texprocil, Sri Gomathy Mills Pvt Ltd, AEPC, Cotton Textiles Export Council (TEXPROCIL), and Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council.
