An Indian and two local men have been arrested for alleged possession of demonetised Indian bank notes in south Nepal, police said Saturday.
Mithilesh Kumar, 36, a resident of Vaishali Thana in Bihar, was nabbed from Shankaracharya Gate in Birgunj, near the Nepal-India border.
Banned Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 Indian notes totalling to Rs 2.5 lakh was seized from him, police said.
In Nepal, one is not allowed to carry more than Rs 25,000 Indian currency without prior permission.
The police have initiated further investigation into the matter.
In a separate incident, two Nepali men were arrested from Idagaha Chowk in Birgunj city on Thursday for carrying fake Indian currency, police said.
The accused Dilip Kumar Sah, 34, from Bairiya Birta, Bahudarmai-II and Jamil Akhtar, 48, from Chhapkaiya, Birgunj-II were presented in front of media persons on Friday.
The police said 95 fake Indian bank notes of Rs 2,000 denomination were seized from the suspects. The accused were crossing over to the Indian side when the were arrested, officials said.
