The aircraft had just taken off when a large bird, possibly a falcon or an eagle, was sucked into the engine, prompting the pilot to immediately fly back to the tarmac, airline sources said.
All the 177 passengers and six crew members on board were safe, the sources said.
Director of Airport Authority of India S D Burman said there was a problem in the flight caused by birds.
SP (Police Control), Uttam Majumder said the incident occurred at 10:30 AM.
