"Artists' (painters) residency workshop displayed bilateral friendship and bridged link a step further between the two countries," Jin told a joint press conference at Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) here.
Seven woman and two male guest artists of China took part in a joint painting residency in which 10 women Indian artists also participated, she said.
"This was a chance for women to show her talent and art... let the society know that women play an important role in social and cultural development," she added.
This kind of approach would make Indo-China relations much stronger in future, Mehta said.
Theme of the residency programme was "maitri" (friendship) in which ten women artists from various parts of the country took part in paintings for five days, he said.
Paintings produced by the artists would be taken around the country for exhibitions in a phased manner, and the next round of Women Artists Residency would be held in China, Mehta said.
