The Aam Aadmi Party today staged a protest against the rising cases of swine flu in Indore while alleging that the health department did not take proper steps to check the spread of the deadly H1N1 virus.
The protesters, led by AAP divisional co-ordinator Yuvaraj Singh Chouhan and secretary S Jhanwar, demonstrated outside the office of Divisional Commissioner and handed over a memorandum, addressed to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, to an officer here.
AAP's divisional media in-charge Hemant Joshi said that in the memorandum, they have demanded setting up of a swine flu testing laboratory in Indore soon as it had already been sanctioned by the state government.
The party has also demanded adequate number of ventilators and safety masks in hospitals and medicines for the disease to be made available at government-run and private medical stores.
AAP also wants proper disposal of the medical waste of swine flu patients at the government and private hospitals. The party also wants camps to be organised to make people aware about the deadly ailment and a screening centre in every district of the state to identify the disease so that it may not turn into an epidemic in future, as per the memorandum.
At least 20 people have died of swine flu in Indore since January 1 this year.
