'Industrial sector should pitch in for rural development'

The industrial sector should come forward to adopt villages in the district as it too has a social responsibility to serve the goals of upliftment of the poor and development of rural areas, a body of senior executives and professionals has said here.
The Noida Management Association (NMA), a body of senior executives of industries and institutions, has appealed to the various companies and firms to adopt one village each to bring about improvement in the lives of the poor.
"We appeal to all the companies, whether they are bound to have CSR as per legislation or not, to adopt one village for development and do social work for the upliftment of the poor and contribute in rural development.
"Thousands of small contributions have the potential to change the social infrastructure and improve the living standards of the poorest of the poor in the country," Dinesh Jain, the president of NMA, said today.
India is the only country in the world to have Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) legislation, the association said..
It added that senior executives of companies like Uflex Ltd, GAIL, LG Electronics, Samsung, Haldiram, Moserbaer, Surya Foods, Eveready, etc. Have assured that they would plan social responsibility projects in the district.
