A four-month-old baby boy was killed and his mother injured when Naxals allegedly attacked them with sticks in the insurgency-hit Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.
The incident took place on December 7 in Todka village under Gangaloor police station limits, although it came to light yesterday when parents of the baby reported the matter to police, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela said.
"As per the preliminary information, a villager Tati Ayitu and his wife were allegedly kidnapped by the rebels along with their child on December 7 for some unknown reason. Ayitu managed to flee from their clutches soon, leaving behind his wife and child," the ASP said.
After his escape, infuriated Naxals beat up Ayitu's wife, who was holding her infant in her arms, with sticks. The child was fatally hit during the attack and died on the spot, the ASP said quoting the complaint.
The rebels then buried the child and fled from the spot leaving the woman injured, he said.
"Two days after the incident, Ayitu along with his wife reached Gangaloor police station and lodged an FIR in this connection," Elesela said.
A case has been registered against three accused, the ASP said, adding that further probe was underway.
