Infiltration of Bangladeshi migrants into Meghalaya is not possible due to the presence of a strong community life in villages of the northeastern state, its Governor V Shanmuganathan said today.
"The community life in villages is very strong in Meghalaya. Infiltration from Bangladesh into Meghalaya is not possible because people do not allow outsiders into their villages," he said.
Explaining the bonding among people in villages in that state, he said there was "no poverty" there and people helped each other in times of need and family exigencies like deaths.
"There are absolutely no poverty deaths, no dowry, no female infanticide and women have exclusive rights to the properties of their father," Shanmuganathan said.
Praising Meghalaya and its people, he recalled that several patriots, including U Kiang Nangbah, had fought valiantly against the Britishers.
Batting for better understanding of the northeastern region and its people, Shanmuganathan, also Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, said people of these states had told him how they faced difficulties when they went to South India in search of work.

Going by their looks, northeastern women folk who go for BPO jobs in Bengaluru were asked if they were from China or Thailand, he said.
Participating in a meet here to condole the recent death of senior RSS leader K Suryanarayana Rao, he said people in northeast asked him why there was no reference to that region or the mighty Brahmaputra river in the national anthem, which refers to river Ganga.
Referring to Meghalaya's mountain ranges, he said the plants and herbs there had disease-curing properties and suggested that people from Tamil Nadu visit the state.
The Governor also praised the locale and beauty of Parashuram Kund and Brahmaputra in Arunachal Pradesh, and said people must visit it.
One could reach Parashuram Kund from Guwahati in about 8 to 10 hours, he said.

Paying rich tributes to Rao for his selfless work, Shanmugananthan said "alongside economic growth there should also be development of human values...Everywhere in Tamil Nadu people should come up like Rao and that will the true tribute to him."
He said people should live like the departed leader, "with a sense of national integration and with a sense of pride over our culture," committed to spreading love across the country among people.
Suryanarayana Rao passed away on November 19 in Bengaluru after serving the Sangh and its affiliate outfits in various capacities for over 70 years.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who was originally scheduled to address the meet, could not participate, the organisers said.
