Initiative launched to promote women's entry into framing

Marking the World Environment Day, a Women in Sustainability (WiS) initiative was launched today by the Council on Energy Environment and Water (CEEW) with the United Nations.
"WiS will be a platform for women researchers, analysts and policy advisers to showcase their work and also provide mentorship opportunities to them at the beginning of their careers in the universities and other institutions," said Dr Arunabha Ghosh, chief executive officer of the non-profit policy institution.
Lauding the imitative, the executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Patricia Espinosa said, "There is abundant research and practical evidence that women can assist in building stronger, more resilient and environmentally-friendly communities."

The Council in its analysis of women working in 15 climate and energy policy think tanks in the country found that number of women being promoted to managerial position "insufficient".
