Inland fishermen urges govt to provide housing facilities
Press Trust of India Puducherry A delegation of Association of Inland Fishermen of Union Territory of Puducherry today urged the territorial government to ensure that housing facilities were provided to inland fishermen here.
A release from the Association said the delegation presented a memorandum to Health and Fisheries Minister Malladi Krishna Rao seeking housing facilities on par with those available for the coastal fishermen.
The release said the memorandum also wanted the government to ensure that the status of scheduled tribes was "provided to all fishermen as early as possible."
Inland fishermen who were covered under the cash relief during period of ban on fishermen every year were yet to get the assistance and the memorandum wanted expeditious sanction of the amount.
Inland fisherme, suffering from critical ailments, should be provided a monthly assistance of Rs 3000 to enable them to take treatment and such a facility was already available to the members of the scheduled caste, it said, adding, this should be extended to inland fishermen also.
