INLD hits out at BJP govt on farmers' issue

Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) today charged the BJP government of going back on its electoral promise of implementing the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission report and instead moving ahead to make changes in the Land Acquisition Act which, it said, would prove detrimental to the interests of the farmers.
Speaking on Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki's address during the ongoing Budget Session of the Haryana Assembly, Leader of Opposition Abhay Singh Chautala said the House should pass a "two-line resolution in the assembly rejecting the amendments in the Land Acquisition Act".
"Haryana, which surrounds Delhi from all sides, will be worst hit if changes are made in the land Act. It will prove detrimental to the interests of the farmers," the INLD's senior leader further said.

Chautala said farmers were already facing numerous hardships, but the BJP had "gone back on its pre-poll promise of implementing the report of the Swaminathan Commission".
"Adding further to the farmers' woes have been the recent spell of unseasonal rains, which have destroyed crops at many places. Like Punjab, Haryana too should seek adequate compensation from the Centre. The government should give Rs 25,000 per acre to the farmers whose crops have suffered extensive damage," he said.
He also urged the BJP government to take steps which would pave way for expeditious completion of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal.

"We have BJP governments in the state and the Centre while the party is an alliance partner in the Punjab government. So the present dispensation should take up the issue with the Centre to facilitate early completion of the canal. The people of Haryana should get their due share of water," he said.

Chautala, meanwhile, sought an assurance from the Manohar Lal Khattar government on looking into the "chargesheet" prepared by INLD against the previous Congress government.
He said that the chargesheet contains details of alleged acts of omission and commission of the previous Congress government including "releasing of 16,004 acres of land from the acquisition process".
The INLD leader also hit out at the Khattar government over poor law and order situation in some parts of the state.
He also said the BJP Government had raised the issue of "regional bias" in development during the previous Congress regime, "but now (when BJP is in power) they have not come out with any roadmap to tell how this can be ended".
