A BJP MLA Monday demanded a probe into a letter seized by the Pune police which refers to a mobile number purportedly belonging to senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh.
Earlier in the day, a Pune police official said the letter in question had been made part of the charge sheet against activists arrested for alleged Maoist links in connection with the Elgar Parishad case.
The letter was seized during nationwide raids conducted by the Pune police in connection with the case following which these activists were arrested, the official added.
Speaking to reporters Monday, Kandivali East MLA Atul Bhatkalkar said he met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and demanded a detailed inquiry into the issue.
Bhatkalkar said he had asked the CM to ensure the inquiry was completed before the end of the winter session of the state legislature on November 30.
Congress' spokesperson Sachin Sawant, however, hit out at the BJP and alleged the Pune police was helping the ruling party with an eye on the Madhya Pradesh polls scheduled for November 28.

Singh is a senior leader of the Congress from MP and has been a former chief minister there.
"The allegation against Digvijay SIngh is an attempt to malign the Congress ahead of the MP polls. The Pune police has lost credibility and even the Supreme Court had questioned it over its officials talking to the media on investigations," Sawant said.
Sawant said the police was not probing Sambhaji Bhide and Miling Ekhbote, both accused of being involved the violence post the Elgar Parishad in Pune on December 31 last year.
Bhide and Ekbote have continually refuted the allegations.
Sawant charged the BJP with diverting attention from "fundamentalism" by using the term "urban Maoists" for political purposes.
A Pune police official, earlier in the day, had also clarified that the number in the seized letter is available on the website of the Indian National Congress as well.
Digvijay Singh had denied the allegations when they first surfaced and had dared the government to arrest him.
Talking to reporters in Satna in Madhya Pradesh on September 4, Singh had said, "If I am guilty, I challenge the Centre and the state government to arrest me.
