On the eve of the unveiling the statue of TDP founder N T Rama Rao, a Congress MP today made a strong plea for installing the statue of first Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Damodaram Sanjivayya in Parliament.
Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao, in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, said there is a long standing demand from the people of Andhra Pradesh for installing the statue of the Dalit leader in Parliament as he was also an MP and served as a union minister other than serving as AICC president.
Rao expressed his willingness to bear the expenses of installing the statue. The MP's demand came on the eve of the installation of a statue of N T Rama Rao in Parliament.
He said the Andhra Pradesh government has installed the statue of Damodaram Sanjivayya in Hyderabad.
'Sanjeevaiah Park' along the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad was also named in his honour, Rao mentioned in his letter.
The installation of the statue, Rao said, would be a fitting tribute to the great Dalit leader and a positive message will go to the downtrodden and the backward section of the society that his service has been duly recognised.
