Academic institutions and the youth can come up with innovations and new research to help the country grow technologically, G Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri, said here today.
Highlighting the country's achievements in the areas of defence, space and others, he, however, said a lot more needs to be done.
India is among the few countries in the world to have the capability to intercept an incoming missile, he said, speaking at the 19th Convocation of University of Hyderabad (UoH) here.
The academic institutions need to promote research and the students should come up with innovations and be entrepreneurs, he said.
"You (students) need to come up innovative ideas... (There can be) small start-ups with specific ideas," he said.
He cited the example of an ambitious youth from Coimbatore who bagged a project with the ISRO for the youth to come forward with new ideas.
