The District Consumer Redressal Forum here directed a private insurance company to pay a sum of Rs 1.85 lakh to the complainant in a case of stolen vehicle.
Forum chairman MY Mankar and members Madhuri Vishwarupe and ND Kadam, in their order issued last week, directed ICICI Lombard General Insurance to pay complainant Popat Y Bandekar an amount of Rs 1.85 lakh where the latter had filed a claim with the insurance company for loss of his car.
Bandekar's counsel SC Bodulla told the forum that the applicant's car was stolen while he was returning from Shirdi, a man impersonated as a traffic police personnel intercepted him to check documents but decamped with his car near Kapurbawdi Naka, in January 2011.
The company rejected the claim saying that the claimant has orchestrated the entire theft in order to pocket the insurance sum, following which Banderkar lodged a case with the police but the case was closed.
Later, the applicant approached the consumer forum, which observed that the insurance company had failed in providing services to the customer and hence, directed it to pay Rs 10,000 towards legal expenses, beside the sum of Rs 1.85 lakh.
