As part of its efforts to create awareness about issues facing the differently-abled, the government would soon organise an International Film Festival for persons with disabilities.
A first-of-its-kind initiative by the Centre, the three- day International Film Festival For Persons with Disabilities is being jointly organised by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in Delhi from December 1 to 3.
The festival will be dedicated to promoting awareness about and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of differently-abled people.
The focus of the festival will be on how to change the way the community thinks about disability, sources said, adding that some of the best new releases from around the world narrating the real-life experiences of people with disabilities would be screened as part of the event.
The government has invited feature, documentary and short films from the general public across the globe by September 25 for screening at the festival.
It has been decided that awards would be given at the festival for various categories, including best feature film and documentary and short film, apart from best actors.
Lov Verma, Secretary in the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, functioning under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, said that the main objective of the festival is to create awareness about the issues associated with persons with disabilities.
