Normal life across Odisha, particularly in western districts, was disrupted today as mercury touched 43.2 degrees Celsius at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district.
According to the MeT office here, almost all the towns in western region recorded temperature above 40 degrees Celsius.
Bhawanipatna was followed by Bolangir (43 deg C), Jharsuguda (42.6 deg C), Hirakud (42.5 deg C) and Sambalpur and Sundargarh (42 deg C).
Bhawanipatna and Titlagarh had yesterday recorded temperature of 43 degreed Celsius.
Other regions also experienced temperature above 39 deg C. While the state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 38.7 deg C with humidity ratio at 90 per cent, an intense heat wave prevailed across the state. Malkangiri recorded 41 deg C and 40.1 deg C was recorded at Keonjhrar.
The heat wave was unbearable due to the high humidity factor, said Sarat Sahu, the director of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar.
An IMD release said rain and thunder showers may occur in interior parts of the state in the next 24 hours.
