Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister Imkong L Imchen today officially launched Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) in the state by administering immunisation drops to toddlers at a health centre here.
In his address, Imchen mentioned the importance of immunisation and described Intensified Mission Indradhanush as one of the most comprehensive programmes which was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday.
However, yesterday was Sunday, and Nagaland being a Christian state decided to launch the Mission today, Imchen said.
He said that the Central government initiated IMI with the objective of safeguarding and preventing children from preventable diseases through immunisation.
Immunisation is the most effective and cheapest means of treatment as the cost of treatment becomes too expensive after a person has already been inflicted due to non-immunisation at young age, he added.
He strongly urged the media and all stakeholders to work in close coordination to sensitise, and create awareness in both urban and rural areas with special emphasis on rural and remote areas.
Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Menukhol John said the department has been giving its concerted efforts in order to get children fully immunised. At the district level, the officer in-charge in the rank of Joint Director is personally monitoring the activities of the programme besides intensified head counting of expected mother, he added.
