: Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy Monday urged police to intensify their vigil on drug-peddlers as rampant availabilty of ganja was a cause of concern.
Presenting commendation certificates to them during the 55th Police Raising Day here, he said the overall performance of police was laudable, but there were areas where the vigil should be intensified.
He said the incidence of rampant availability of ganja was causing concern and the police should take action.
The Chief Minister said proper maintenance of law and order has seen a rise in the number of visitors from other states to the Union Territory.
He said around 15,000 applications had been received from candidates seeking to join the force as constables.
Director General of Police S Sundari Nanda highlighted the work of the police in the union territory.
Top police officials were among those present.
