Inter-state gang busted in Punjab, 5 arrested

Punjab Police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang and arrested five of its members near Sapror village here.
They were arrested during a special checking near Sapror yesterday, Superintendent of Police, Phagwara, Jasbir Singh Rai told reporters.
The gang was involved in robberies, murderous assaults, snatching and ATM looting incidents, he said, adding it was "funded" by a Dubai-based gangster Baljit Balli.
Three pistols, nine live cartridges and some sharp edged weapons were recovered from them, Rai said.
A look out notice will be issued to all police stations of the country, and national airports for facilitating Balli's arrest whenever he returns to the country, he said.
During preliminary investigation, the gangsters confessed to have committed over half dozen crimes, including breaking open an ATM in village Madhopur and decamping with Rs 50,000 of cash, snatching a SUV and injuring people, the SP said.
They were also involved in a bid to kill an undertrial of a rival gang in Muktsar last month when he was to appear in court, he added.
They arrested have been identified as kingpin of the gang Ramanjot Singh, Karan Thakur, both of Aman Nagar in Jalandhar, Chandan of village Nangal Majha in Phagwara, Jagdip Kumar alias Deepa of village Boparai, Goraya and Naresh Kumar alias Nesha of village Dhak Pandori, Phagwara, he said, adding one Pankaj, resident of Jalandhar was absconding.
