"The recent massacre by Islamic State in Paris has justified our efforts to organise an International Conference on Radical Islam so that ways may be found out to prevent such massacres," conference director Dr Preeti Johari told reporters here about this ICSSR-sponsored event being organised at RCA Girls (PG) College Mathura.
Noted dignitaries includes Justice Rajendra Sachar, who headed the Sachar committee; Dr Zafrul Islam (Deoband), Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi of All India Imam Organization; Tarek Fatah, noted author and columnist from Canada, and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah, she said.
The debate in the Conference will be divided into several sub-themes-- causes and drivers of Islamic radicalisation, tools and practices needed to counter Islamic radicalisation, how to overcome this situation, birth of a 'new Islam', the role that Islamist ideology plays in extremism, extent of radicalisation in Indian Muslim community and the country's response to terrorist attacks.
