International Forum of New Cinema to pay homage to Humayun

"The Bengali film will be in our homage section of the festival as a tribute to the internationally known author, dramatist and film maker," Cine Central General Secretary Parimal Mukherjee said here today.

'Ghetuputra Kamola' (Pleasure boy Kamola) having been selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the 'Best Foreign Language' film at the 85th Academy Awards, is a musical centred on a boy (Kamola).

Beginning on November 11, the eight-day long International Forum of New Cinema will screen 90 representative films from 30 countries including those from Iran, China, Cuba, Denmark, Holland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Spain with the spotlight on Peru and Hungary which will be represented by seven and four films respectively, Mukherjee said.

"There will be segments like panorama of world cinema, restrospective, film focus, highlights and classics and the fare will be different as had been always with the state-run international film festival. We get all help from the state government," he said.

In the retrospective section, five works of renowned filmmaker Wang-Kar Wai will be screened, including the Fallen Angel.

"Having first introduced the first-ever independent international film festival in India in 1986, we made an important structural change in 1998 christening it as International Forum of New Cinema 12 years later and till this date we are focussing on cinema of other kind, to cater to discerning viewers amd figting the threat from dvd and net downloads," Mukherjee said.

Prasar Bharatio CEO Jawahar Sircar will attend the inaugural function on November 11. Mrinal Sen, Soumitra Chatterjee will also be among those to be present.
