"Police will take stern action to curb red sanders smuggling, terrorism and extremism. An Interpol red corner notice has been issued against Kollam Gangi Reddy," he told reporters at the Kadapa district police office.
The DGP said that the Andhra Pradesh police had already approached the Interpol to trace Kollam Gangi Reddy, who also happens to be an accused in the 2003 Alipiri bomb blast case at Tirupati, in which Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu escaped.
He said that a special task force headed by a DIG rank officer from the police and the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) would start functioning from Tirupati to curb red sanders smuggling more effectively.
He said that proposals to amend the Forest Act including provisions like confiscating the property of red sanders smugglers and making it a non-bailable offence have been sent to the government. He expressed hope that these proposals would be approved soon and give more teeth to law enforcing agencies.
He said that the police department would be upgraded technologically and close circuit television (CCTV) cameras would will be installed in police stations soon.
